During the recording of Masks, I heard the news of his passing and I was shook. Made two great ass tapes, one expressing the emotions I was going through and the other just me, for the first time in my life, having fun making music with my friends, sticking to an actual plan. Mac's album made me be like "fuck it, lemme get my shit together and get brackin on music" since I had so much going on that it seems like music/drugs where the only things to help me get through the rough patches but hearing someone who had similar experiences as mine made me feel great//I didn't wanna go back to being in an even darker place than I was. I remember when I got back from Barbados, he dropped an album (Swimming) and that really resonated hard for me, in the sense of going through a break up at the time and just wanting to say fuck it, relapse and be "back on my bullshit". Still didn't listen to him much outside of Faces (hands down one of the best mixtapes of all time) and Lucky Ass Bitch because while his other shit was cool, I was on my druggie shit and wanted to hear songs about getting fucked up and doing drugs/making music since that had been my life up until I was 21. Tbh, even though I had mad respect for dude, I didn't like him for the longest because I thought he was a white dude tryna capitalize on hip-hop to promote himself (s/o Post Malone), but he actually put in work to develop as an artist and when I heard Watching Movies, that changed my outlook on him.
